For the restyling of the I.L. magazine I was asked to take care of the map system and graphics.
The use of the maps in the magazine is strictly functional to the articles content and can be used for different purposes. It can show the geographic positioning of the place mentioned as well as be more elaborate such as thematic maps and illustrate specific financial/political/anthropological situations through the use of the legend elements.
I really loved working on this project since there was a lot of research involved. I looked at so many beautiful old maps, map projections, corographic maps and many more just to have a good understanding of cartography tools and their graphic complexity. Really fascinating!
The final product is based on specific textures, stroke thicknesses, typographic hierarchies and a very calculated legend. It's all in the details pretty much!
