IKE - Improving Kids' Environment Brand + Web

IKE was established in 1999. It is a 501(c)(3) not-for-profit corporation based in Indianapolis, Indiana, that works to reduce environmental threats to children's health. I recently donated some time to help improve the IKE (Improving Kids' Environment) brand and website. Their main goal for the site is to engage volunteers and drive donations. A secondary goal was to improve the navigation for the wealth of resources that can be found on their site.

Logo
Before.
I started with the logo. Like most smaller non-profits, their efforts were focused on solving the issues they care about and not much time had been put into brand development. This logo is not prominently featured anywhere on their website or collateral. It mostly lived on their letterhead. And for good reason.
After.
I wanted to create a mark that felt childlike but not really aimed at children since the target was really parents. I decided on hand drawn letterforms in playful colors. I also wanted to give them a logo they could be proud to display and leverage in collateral.
Website
Before.
The main point of interaction for potential volunteers or donors. Their old website was simply built and had a lot of issues with heirarchy and no distinct call to action.
Initial Design.
Specific calls to action and some organization provide for a clean look and clear entry points to content. Using brand colors to provide the pops of color to draw the eye ties it all together. Instead of having a million links in the left channel we organized these into three distinct categories of issues and put those in the Issues dropdown menu. Using a "flat" design scheme also allows for quick page loading and responsiveness.
