High Point Parks and Open Space
Denver and Aurora, Colorado
The High Point Community is an 1800-acre mixed use development adjacent to Denver International Airport and spanning the cities of Denver and Aurora. Utilizing progressive approaches for sustainability, neo-traditional and transit-oriented development, the new community integrates single and multi-family housing with retail, restaurants, live/work units, hotel, and professional offices uses in a dynamic urban setting with parks, trails and natural areas.
From the Rocky Mountain Wildlife Refuge, through a vast tract of the City of Denver and into the City of Aurora, the High Point open space system establishes a green corridor that surrounds the restored West Fork of Second Creek. Incorporating innovative hydrologic systems, native plant communities, parks and recreation, natural playgrounds, interpretive signage and a regional trail, the open space network connects to the High Point Academy and will eventually connect to a greater regional open space network.
At the heart of the High Point open space network, the West End Neighborhood Park integrates active recreational facilities with native plant communities, walking trails and a natural playground. An overlook commands an expansive view of the Rocky Mountains and Denver skyline.
