Student Work: Publicity Poster
The Extinct exhibition that I based my publicity poster project on, is an exhibition exploring extinct and prehistoric animals, but more importantly it raises questions about human interaction with the natural world and highlights the plight of critically endangered species. It is the human interaction that I wanted to focus on with my idea, and so I decided to make the poster interactive.

I had 4 different layers of the poster to signify the different layers of the animal. The idea is that the viewer will be intrigued and start to tear off parts of the top layer which will gradually reveal the other layers underneath. Eventually the poster itself becomes destroyed, symbolising the fact that all these different animals are dying and it is often us humans who are killing them. I would ideally have a limited number of posters to show how few animals we have left of certain species.

I collaborated with an illustration friend who drew the animals for me -
Sian Richards, who is actually a fashion illustrator, but equally as good with any detailed drawing you need! She can be found here: http://sssketchbook.tumblr.com/
I also designed some tickets for the exhibition where there is an endangered animal on each ticket. The tickets are ripped or torn off rather than perforated and once bought, the tickets get stamped with the word extinct on. The underside has the name of the animal on the front with the figure of how many are left in the wild.
