DECODE ONKALO

Onkalo (Finland) is a deep geological repository for the final displosal of spent nuclear fuel it’s ment to last 100.000 years. Inform your current generation about Onkalo and reflect your personal opinion about Onkalo as a graphic designer.

In my opinion I felt obliged as a designer to inform our current generation with both, good and bad aspects of the Onkalo project. The bad aspects, 5 attachments at the end of every neutral chapter, are transformed in a code language. The reader has the option if he/ she wants to read it or not. If they want to read the bad aspects of Onkalo they can, because the book is provided with a stencil that can decode it.

The code is also a metaphor for radioactive waste: that can’t be seen.
Therefore, the letters aren’t complete.
