Chronicles of desire is a project that I did for the European gay magazine Beautiful Magazine. On top of treating the male body in a way that was sensual I wanted to make a statement to be coherent with the rest of my work.
For the project I decided to reinterpret themes from Greek mythology like the Parable of Phryne, Chronos, Pygmaleon, Leda and the Swan, etc.
The point is to revisit the history of the representation of male homosexuality from a contemporary perspective, since before the last 2 decades of the 20th century the gender perspective non-existant. This kinds of representations (without taking into consideration the very explicit sexual images in greek vases) have been treated in code for the understanding of a few. A good example is the theme of the Rapt of Ganymede (see Michael Angelo's depiction of the theme).
A great book on the topic is Mauvais Genre by French art historian Florence Tamagne.
