Book covers and Mass-Market Illustration
The illustrations to follow were created for children's books, many for book covers that were written for young adult readers. Most of the images were made using traditional media: oils, acrylics, airbrush, colored pencils and watercolors. I have used a variety of media in my work, to arrive at a desired final look that met the demands of the market at the time. The mass market approach for many years was dominated by a realist tradition that was predominant in adult cover art, but soon became a desired look for children's books as well.
Some of the later work will reflect my adoption of digital media into my bag-of-tricks for image creation. I started to use digital media in my work in the early 1990's, where I was ahead of the curve, especially in publishing at that time.
