In partnership with the Lawen Group and Sun Life Financial, Breakhouse Architecture completed an extensive development study for the new YMCA facility in downtown halifax.
The proposal is a mixed-use development situated within a complex urban fabric, the public gardens, the Historic Citadel Hill, residential buildings and a commercial streetscape surround the property. The bottom three floors of the building create a podium that contains all of the YMCA facilities with street level shops, populated by a cluster of residential towers scattered along the roof top. The building is activated by a running track that loops around the building on the 3rd floor. Bringing animation and a strong voice of its purpose to pedestrians and vehicles passing by. (Concept was not the winning submission)
