Gensler
This Oscar-winning film studio is a major digital animation studio focused on feature films, video games, and visual effects. The studio’s film credits include “Titanic” and “The Curious Case of Benjamin Button.” They required a 115,000 square foot build-to-suit digital animation studio in order to provide the best environment for artists and writers. Their new Port St. Lucie, Florida studio is a cutting-edge space directly attuned to the needs of the artists and writers creating the next wave of movies and video games.

The design concept centers on the intersection of two building wings linked by a common screening room, entry space, and collaboration zone. A main theater provides space for screenings and community events. Writers and administrative staff sit at the ends of the wings with full length glass windows to maximize daylight. The slotted exterior windows evoke a pixilated form and give visual effects artists an optimal proportion of light. Both groups are able to take advantage of the outdoor space, which includes a movie theatre on the lawn. A sparse minimalism in the design reflects a raw, urban-industrial aesthetic which contrasts to the lush and verdant outdoor atmosphere which connects the studio to its founding in Southern California.
