The impetus for the project was to inspire and foster a sense of civic pride and community. Current city benches are strictly utilitarian and lack any incentive for people to converse, gather and get to know their neighbor.
At 14 feet tall, the bench is designed to be a beacon of hope and inspiration that the days of community involvement and civic pride are not lost.
The curved shape of the seat is meant to encourage people to see their fellow citizen across the way and facilitate conversion and fellowship.
Dramatic lighting was added primarily to create a safe and inviting environment, but also to create a dynamic and impactful landmark for the city of Atlanta.
