Astrology Calendar

Within the theme of astrology, I had to find a focus that related to time and space but also specifically to the month of January. After attempting various other ideas, I ended up focusing on meteor showers as there is an annual meteor shower in January. I created a diagram which visualizes the Earth and Sun’s rotational pattern, the location of the meteor shower itself and when Earth crosses its path. The circles represent Earth’s positions through the 5 days of visibility. The gradation of colour represents the visibility of the shower from Earth with the most saturated colour representing the best visibility. I took a long exposure photograph of stars to mimic the movement of meteors and used it as the background to create depth. The purpose of this design was to keep every piece of information purposeful and necessary to the design as a whole. The challenge was to create something where every design element had purpose. Nothing exists for purely aesthetic reasons, everything is informational and part of a system.
