Appealing to teens:
The Dakota County Library Teen program guides: Summer 2011
Teens are a unique audience that require targeted communications. Prior to 2010, the Dakota County Library had promoted teen programs in a program guide that contained all children’s, teen and adult programming.
In 2010, we decided to do more targeted communications to teen audiences with the goal of getting more teens to attend programs offered at the library. We pulled the teen programs out of the general program
guide and designed a teen program guide that would cater specifically to that audience. The benefit was
the ability to design the guide top to bottom with themes, graphics and language that specifically appeals to
a teen audience.
