"Adapt A Door" donation for Memphis Heritage
This project was a custom furniture piece donated for Memphis Heritage's Fundraiser "Adapt A Door". The S-Bench is made from a reclaimed door and scrap mahogany wood from a friend's cabinet shop. It is a simple bench that contrasts the re-purposing of a door and the simple beauty of naturally stained mahogany wood. Approximately 90% of the door was reused to make up the legs and S form of the body of the bench. The door was only slightly sanded to reveal various layers of the door's history of finishes throughout its lifetime as a result the door takes on an almost leather-like finish with its cracks which is in stark contrast to the natural mahogany infill pieces.
