Art for the Wall: "Acrassicauda"
For the final in my Islamic Studies lecture class, as a break from essays we had to make a piece of art for the controversial wall that divides Palestine and Israel that had something to do with the subjects we learned in class. As a topic I decided to make a "coming back" tour poster for the Iraqi Heavy Metal band Acrassicauda. The name means "Black Scorpion" in arabic and the band is the first heavy metal band to appear in Iraq. The members were forced to leave for Syria and later America due to receiving death threats on their choice to play the music as well as the fighting during the American Invasion. One of the places they held jam sessions was blown up, but luckily they weren't around. Anyways, I thought they were pretty cool to stand out and play the music they wanted to play in a part of the world that isn't so fond of that sort of thing, as well as the fact that they arrived to the States and got to meet the legends that inspired them: Metallica.

Much of their lyrics are about the hardships they faced and the horrible things they saw while in the middle of the second Iraq war, and so thats why I had the guitar dipped in blood. The body is of course, the outline of Iraq as a country, and the hand grasping it is doing the "Devil Horns" thing that is frequent at metal concerts. The whole idea is that this is their triumphant return to their home country to play the music they want to play.

This was a quickie, done in just a couple of hours, the majors at my school don't leave much time to work on liberal arts classes during finals. Theres things here and there I could fix, but for what it is I think it turned out ok.
