lightening up an iconic
lightening up an iconic
Release Date: June, 2011
General Info: The Forum Mid Crazy Light was a complete modernization of the iconic adidas Forum Mid, breathing air in (and through) the silhouette and reestablishing it for today hardwood. Adidas' Performance Basketball team asked us to overhaul one of our classics using their brand new Sprint Web technology.
For this project I redesigned the upper of the Forum Mid creating a single-layer exoskeleton suited for Sprint Web technology, which is a process that bonds very thin synthetics to mesh to allow for structure and support but also flexibility. Since our goal was create the lightest Forum Mid ever, we took the shoe down to the essentials. This meant evaluating every aspect of the shoe to reduce the weight without sacrificing comfort, function, and aesthetics. In addition, traditional rubber tooling went on a diet and was redesigned to incorporate lightweight EVA.
Coupled with material and colors, this shoe was reintroduced to a new generation of kids and courts.
