In collaboration with the Dublin based design studio Associate, creative director and owner Ciara Cantwell set our final year Visual Communications class the brief 'Objectified'. The brief proposed to create an A1 poster that could fold down to A5, whilst communicating and celebrating an everyday object. In reaction to this, I chose the humble screw. The screw is used in almost every building and appliance that we use on a daily basis, in essence, it is a facilitator for design. The solution uses an object which was laid out, exposing its mixed components, and by visually illustrating the process of putting them together using the screw. I used a lamp, photographed in the beginning with all of its mixed elements laid out, and as the viewer begins to open the poster, the elements become arranged and start to form an object, using only seven screws. The interior A1 poster reveals the lamp secure through the use of those seven screws.
