Helping Nurse-Family Partnership Break

An icon in the hedge fund industry, Arthur J. “Art” Samberg has been active in philanthropic undertakings. Art Samberg’s The Samberg Family Foundation is one of six general partners (committing $50 million or more) of Blue Meridian Partners.

The venture’s goal is to invest at least $1 billion to assist successful nonprofits that are focused on helping children and youth who are economically disadvantaged to implement their endeavors on a greater scale. One of the nonprofits Blue Meridian has invested in is the Nurse-Family Partnership (NFP). Blue Meridian is investing $56.5 million over 4 years to help NFP in the first 4-year phase of its 8-year scaling plan.

NFP is a national home visitation initiative where trained nurses help first-time mothers living below the federal poverty line deal with life difficulties and create better futures for their families. The four-decade-old program has helped reduce infant death by 45 percent, reduced child abuse and neglect by 48 percent, and increased maternal employment by 82 percent, helping break the poverty cycle among its participants.

Blue Meridian’s investment will help improve and scale the home visitation model to assist 100,000 families annually. This represents over a quarter of the annual 380,000 children born to first-time mothers of economically disadvantaged backgrounds.
