July 4, 2021 update: I took these photos on Christmas evening, 2019, while walking on East 57th Street and 5th Avenue in NYC. The weather was pleasant, not cold. I attended Christmas evening Mass at St. Vincent Ferrer church, then walked gradually toward 57th Street and 5th Avenue. The streets were crowded, especially West 50th Street as shown in the final photo.
Retrospectively, it appears that Covid-19 may have been in its earliest days of circulation in the USA at the time these photos were taken. The same store windows were mostly covered up or empty for Christmas 2020. Fortunately I believe that Christmas 2021 in NYC will once again have inspiring store window displays.
