How this cover became to being, in fact all began with a newsletter/e-mail from Creative Review magazine. One of their reviews was about the 'Handmade Issue' that would soon go into publication by Wallpaper* Magazine (that was in August 2010). The newsletter was sent around June 2010. The only difference was Wallpaper* was giving their readers (and budding designers of the future) the opportunity to design their very own cover! The fee was £6, which is a bargain compared to the usual fees that many artists have to pay to enter competitions nowadays. And for students, it would be a nice, welcome edition to the portfolio. The only small disadvantage was you couldn't submit any original artwork for the cover. You had to use what the application gave you, which was an assortment of shapes, objects, text etc. On the other hand, it did allow for a lot of creative thinking and imagination; so all in all, it was a pretty fun project to do. Hundreds of one-off covers were created for the 'Handmade Issue'!

'Hands On, Hands Off' was an one off cover as well as the many other entries for the Handmade issue. In fact, Wallpaper's 'D-I-Y Cover' project was so successful, that the cover design application and gallery is now a permanant feature on the Wallpaper magazine website.
The hard copy of the 'Handmade Issue' came through the post in early July 2010. The printing quality was pretty good, with plenty of interesting content inside, inc. a page showing some of Wallpaper*'s favourite handmade covers.
