Smaug's Lair- Visual Studies For Animators

Visual Studies For Animators
'Smaug's Lair' (2010)
As part of my Visual Studies For Animators module,  I had to design an interior or exterior from J.R.R Tolkien's The Hobbit in our own visual style. I decided to recreate Smaug's Lair for  the project and focused on how greed and wealth is represented in reality, as well as fantasy.

For example, notice the sandy, cracking  sculpture in the background? You might just be able to see small waterfalls of crude oil flowing from the fingers. With the Gulf Oil Spill last year, it has shown that greed can lead to devastation on a vast scale and the rippling effect it has on civilisation and the world.

Also notice the many green oil cans strewn around the place?

Seems Smaug has his own oil company going on!
