MIDNIGHT IN MARRAKESH is a collection of six looks based upon a primary influence of a visit to the city of Marrakesh. In particular this trip showed the importance of a garment, its use of protection, religion and comfort, a whispered sense of expression was apparent in the younger women of Marrakech, there was a longing for sexiness and style.
This collection is for a woman of many different nationality’s from around the globe, it embraces the new simple but luxurious culture in fashion, through silhouette with an emphasis through PRINT. Printed headscarves are added to the collection embracing the Moroccan religious tradition, styled in a westernized way, as a combination of cultures.
The Moroccan midnight is so fascinating, the amazing doorways, intricate laser cut and embossed walls along with the textured old town feel shines through the darkness from the bleached out lighting. This is something that stands out within the collection, the prints hold a hand manipulated quality to reflect the city, bleaching has been used to reflect the midnight light, every print is hand drawn or painted with a touch of laser cutting and flocking to represent the artisanal quality’s of the city. The camels that walk the city, unusually placed, have influenced the textured fabrics, there is an appearance of flocking and cotton velvets, but purposely missing out the leathers and suede, the collection holds morals against the use of animals,  it is a purely vegetarian collection, which the world seems to be ready for. The prints from this collection are also inspired by old vintage mirrors relating back to the worn ‘old’ feel from Marrakesh, some of the prints have been directly placed behind and in front of an old self-distressed mirror, to create the negative and positive in relation to the bleached out negative and positive midnight light.
Luxury is a key factor within the collection using materials such as silk jersey, silk crepe satin and double georgette as well as the more structured autumn/winter fabrics such as cotton satin, cotton velvet and cotton drill. The Woman who would desire such a collection is a woman from anywhere around the globe, she is someone longing for a freshness in design who likes the idea of covering up in winter but when it comes to stepping out in the night time she will be ready for a touch of sexiness. She has advanced into the idea of an animal friendly world, but longs for luxury and lavishness within her material. Above all she is a woman who wants femininity but not over the top, high fashion and to express herself primarily through colour and print with an open mindness for culture from around the world.
