PeerForward - Addressing an Educational and Social Issu

A successful businessman, Arthur “Art” J. Samberg is also involved in various philanthropic undertakings. Art Samberg is a member of the national advisory board of PeerForward (formerly College Summit) and was honored as a Lifetime Peer Leader.

PeerForward identifies the brightest students from low-income district high schools, and with the right training and assistance, provides assistance to help them obtain a college education. With a counselor-to-student national ratio of 1 to 464 as against the recommended 1 to 250, there exists a large college counseling resource gap. PeerForward teams can help increase low-income high school’s college counseling capacity.

For over two decades, the program has assisted more than 350,000 students in gaining a postsecondary education. The stark reality is 99 percent of new jobs, since the 2008 recession, require some postsecondary education. Unfortunately, only 11 percent of students from low-income backgrounds earn a college degree by age 24, in spite of the fact that 95 percent of middle or high school students from low-income neighborhoods want to have a college education.
