Inspired by Tanaka Tatsuya’s simple use of everyday objects to imitate a physical space, Hong Ting attempts to depict how the Chinese culture is preserved using culturally associated objects found in her own home.

Chinese Calligraphy that was used for education, and Chinese Opera and theatre performances used for entertainment, were commonplaces within the Chinese Culture of the past. Mahjong, however, was iconic of the past and is still popular today.

The Game of Mahjong is hence a reflection on how the Chinese culture encompasses many representations and a lesser demand for one does not mean that the culture is not preserved today.
