2005: WHO'S AFRAID OF RED, YELLOW AND BLUE

Interior Design
Eindhoven Airport by M+R
September 2005

Eindhoven Airport is a regional airport with national and international potential. Due to its steady growth, the existing terminal became too small and the decision was made to build a new terminal. The new terminal has a futuristic aura and an industrial finish. M+R designed the interior of the departure lounge and the first floor with its panoramic terrace and kitchen facilities. The catering company Belvedair commissioned M+R to design the catering facilities, based on a new catering concept. To create the right atmosphere, and to provide travellers with a certain degree of transparency and cohesion, a very limited range of primary colours was used. For example, all the desks in the departure lounge are bright red. The Small, Medium and Large catering formulas were used to give each section their own typical atmosphere; the à la carte restaurant (Large) was given a chic appearance with large purple light fittings and dark wooden furniture. Special partitions provide an intimacy that is in stark contrast to the open spaces in the terminal.
