USS Midway Museum - Vol Wall Redux

USS Midway Museum
Volunteer Recognition Display v.2
("Vol Wall" Redux)
Interestingly, this project replaces the very first project I did directly for the USS Midway Museum. You can see the original project elsewhere in my portfolio.

For this version of the "Vol Wall", the museum wanted the display to be a large scale, interactive touchscreen device, easy to upgrade, and simple enough that most of the common updates could be accomplished by the museum's Volunteer Department.

As with other "interactive digital exhibit" designs I've created for the museum, I took the approach of building a dedicated, locally hosted website. The site is hosted on a Raspberry Pi microcomputer, connected to a 57" IR Touchscreen with external speakers, and is displayed via the Google Chromium development browser in Kiosk Mode.

Additional project members include:
Manny Arias - Microcomputer and video display configuration
Jay Billups - Videography and editing: Overview and Profile videos
Bill Coleman - Video conforming and captioning
Kearny High, School of Digital Media and Design - Department videos
Albert Munoz - Graphic design of façade
   Mike Ozaki - Exhibits Director
   Laurie Switzer  - Volunteer Director
Steve Suslik - Volunteer content updates

Below are a video tour of the VRD, along with a few of my layout / design documents and representative screen captures. Some of the items reflect the original 6 button design (currently in use) while others reflect an 8 button update I'm working on for the museum.
Video Tour of VRD
The tour video has been reduced in size to 540 x 960 pixels to load faster. It runs 2:20 and shows the 6 button version, currently in use.
Design & Development Documents
These images reflect some of my planning and development documents for the VRD's original design and updates. They were shared at team meetings to clarify various issues.
Shipboard Display
These two shots show the display in operation at its unveiling on the Flight Deck during the museum's annual Volunteer Appreciation Dinner and in its permanent location on the ship's Hangar Deck, across from the museum entrance.
Screen Captures
The screen captures below show content accessed via the Main User Interface (MUI), which consists of 8 persistent buttons (expanded from 6), while Secondary User Interfaces (SUIs) are contextual and appear only as needed within the Main Media Window (MMW) at the center of the screen.
There are currently no screen cap representations for the last two buttons, as I await final review and approval by the museum for those two groups.

Above is the default screen, on which loops the Overview Video and to which the display reverts when the other screens "time out" after specific periods without any user input.

Below are screen cap samples reflecting the updates with 8 buttons, and their "child pages", showing the general navigation tree structure of the website.
