Basti - A Backpackers' Hostel - Branding
A uniquely themed Backpackers' hostel in a city that is considered the epitome of urban cities- Mumbai, where every dorm represents a unique city of the country that breaks the stereotype of a village being backward and highlights the unconventional features of these villages.
The brief involved capturing the raw village theme combined with a modern color palette. The overall feel of the brand is intended to come across as Quirky, Sophisticated & Fun.
The branding is heavily inspired by village elements such as Kutchha Huts(made with straw) as a source of shelter, traditional Warli art being used by villagers to often decorate their houses and carts that are used by people in the village to commute to places.
The Logo was required to have a balance between Quirky & Modern while reflecting the Village theme as it’s basic essence.
It remained a challenge to bring out the theme of a village while still managing to make the overall design strategy seem modern & sophisticated.
To achieve so, the village theme is majorly reflected in the main elements while the sophisticated and modernity is pursued by opting a primary color palette that is a minimal Grey & Yellow.
The essence of a Backpacker’s hostel is kept minimally reflective through the expressively used “B” as a bunk bed, a very iconic feature of the concept.
Additionally, It is shown in the symbol, as backpacks being carried in a cart which truly gives a feeling of being "transported to a village" when you enter the property.
The brand has a minimal primary color pallette of Grey & Yellow with represents a sophisticated yet fun & quirky identity of the Hostel.
The secondary palette combines some bright contrasting color tones- Lime green, Haute Pink & Bright Blue to extend & accentuate the fun & quirky element of the brand.
