Misuse of Silkscreen Printing

The goal of this project was to take a piece of machinery used at some point in the graphic design process and using it in an incorrect or improper way.

As a child, my parents ran a t-shirt printing business out of our home as a side job. I learned the trade over the years but never had much use for it. Years later, I took a printmaking class that covered serigraphy/silkscreen printing. It was there that I made several mistakes and discovered a unique effect as a result of mixing ink.

With my professor's reluctance ensuring that this was in fact the wrong way to print, I exploited this "happy accident" on several projects afterward, and then revisited the practice for the project in question a semester or two later. While I'm sure this technique had to have been practiced for years prior to my personal discovery of it, the style fit the project requirements, and I was quite pleased with the results.
