Visualizing an Ambitious Sustainability Plan.

As the city of Washington, DC prepared to launch a 20-year sustainability plan, they enlisted an interdisciplinary team of consultants including Ayers Saint Gross, ARUP, ReingoldLINK, and Bruce Mau Design to help implement an ambitious sustainability strategy. BMD designed the identity and developed the branding strategy in partnership with ReingoldLINK.

Following an extensive public engagement phase, it was clear to both the client team and the consultant team that there were over 1,300 ways to make the district more sustainable, all reflecting the diversity that makes DC unique.

The identity system is flexible to allow the city to showcase these many stories and new initiatives as this plan moves forward and evolves. Sustainable DC will guide the transformation of the District of Columbia into the healthiest, greenest, and most livable city in the United States within one generation. The plan launched February 20, 2013.
