Designing Across Divides

Designing Across Divides
This project was created for a contest in Morgantown, WV titled, Designing Across Divides. The objective of the contest is to design a pair of banners (each 30" x 84") that together address an issue in our world today. The banners chosen will be hanging on High Street in downtown Morgantown. More information can be found here.

The first set of banners focuses on a generalized divide of acts of violence versus acts of peace. I intentionally kept the message straight forward to encourage viewers to think about how they personally can show peaceful acts in our world that seems overwhelmed with violence today.

The second set of banners focuses more specifically on the issue of body shaming. Body shaming is the act of putting down or criticizing someone's figure and, therefore, pressuring them to change their look in order to fit certain societal standards. It is evident in the media with ads pressuring people to develop unhealthy diets, forms of exercise, etc. in order to achieve a "perfect" look. Body shaming causes divides between people, as well as within one's personal self. I placed the caption, "Interrupt Shame with Love" as a simple and straight forward statement to encourage the viewer to reflect on whether they personally shame others or have fallen victim to shaming.

The second banner shown below was chosen and displayed on High Street in downtown Morgantown March 29-31st.
