The Royal Tenenbaums / Guide to the Film's House

111 Archer Avenue

This project serves as a comprehensive guide to the iconic house inhabited by the main characters' family at 111 Archer Avenue, as depicted in Wes Anderson's film The Royal Tenenbaums. All the scenes in the house were filmed not in a studio, but in a real mansion at 144th Street and Convent Avenue in Harlem, New York. In fact, all of the Tenenbaums' rooms are in this house. The only exception was the kitchen, which had to be rented in the neighboring building.

The book is divided into six chapters, each of which explores three interrelated themes: the house as the focal point of the film, fascinating historical insights into its decoration, and an exploration of the filmmaking process. With one chapter devoted to each room, the reader is taken on a journey through both the narrative significance of the house and the intricate details behind its creation.

Chapter 1. The Appearance of the House.
Chapter 2. The Attic (as Fourth Floor).
Chapter 3. The Third floor.
Chapter 4. The Second floor.
Chapter 5. The First floor.
Chapter 6. The Service floor.
