Personal Concept Statement:
In “The Sandbox” by Edward Albee it presents a story of a husband and wife taking the wife’s mother to a beach and simply waiting for her to die. In Mommy and Daddy’s eyes, they are hoping that they could trick Grandma and that Grandma see’s this as a luxurious way to go, but in Grandma’s eyes, she is being not only hurt but also betrayed by the woman who was once her little girl. Although it may seem like Grandma is majorly affected by “old age”, that is simply her outward appearance/state of being. In her mind she is still fully functional and also completely able to see what is going on. Mommy and Daddy place her in a sandbox, which is to represent a beach while a young man stands close by simply “working out”. We later find out that Young Man is the Angel of Death who has come to take Grandma during her last moment in the sandbox thinking of her life and listening to the musician, hired by her daughter.
Young Man is a very attractive guy. He has jet-black hair that is very shaggy. He is wearing black swim trunks as well as a grey beanie and black converse. He is very pleasant and has a friendly smile. He also has darker shaded wings tattooed on his back that look a bit tattered.
. I see Momma is a short dress that obviously looks extremely expensive. It is made of silk and is completely spotless. It would be baby blue. She would be wearing various items of jewelry from long necklaces to diamond earrings, and large bracelets. She is also wearing a large pair of sunglasses and a large sun hat as if to shield almost her entire body. Her make up is slightly eye-catching due to the bright lips and eyelids. She has long dark hair and it is obvious that she enjoys every second of wearing the most expensive clothing.
Daddy is in slight business attire wearing kaki pants, brown shoes, and a white button up shirt, which the sleeves are rolled up to his elbows. He is obviously a very wealthy man and takes pride in it. He is wearing a Rolex watch and looks as if he is losing his hair. He is not exactly an attractive man.
Grandma would be in very simple clothing. She would be wearing a light colored sun dress with a floral patern on it. She would also be wearing a solid color pair of house shoes/ slippers. She could possibly have a visor or older looking sunglasses.
Musician is simply dressed in black pants, a white button up shirt, black dress shoes, and a black tie. He is quite and is only there to do what he is being paid for. He sits while playing violin.
