Special LP collector's reissue of the legendary Coil's “Russian” anthology created to mark their first performance in Moscow. Limited edition of 288 copies on 180g heavyweight black vinyl.
Tasks:
LP package design (lettering phase);
Creation of 4 exclusive handcrafted LP packages with gold and silver leaf illumination;
Production of two short films for promotional purposes;

Since the Coil's music is very unusual and it can't be simply described, I tried to combine different elements from various cultures to create an unique and special design. Also I had to connect it to Russia, since this's a special project made by Russian fans to the worldwide Coil fan community.
My main reference focus was towards cabalistic and northern aesthetics. At a first glance, those cultures are totally different, but when mixed they produce quite interesting results, as is seen in the video below.
Every step had to be approved by two art directors and we worked hard on the lettering part. We tried various forms and concepts (even the "blinking eyes concept" — the last variation in the video), but by the end we decided to use simple letters without any ornaments or illustrations.
The final step was the creation of exclusive vinyl package.
"From the vast amount of material, in nearly alchemical manner, they had extracted two characteristic components: a transparent glacial Moon substance, Silver, and a fiery bright Sun essence, Gold.
The two parts of the collection, introduced as Guides to the listener, symbolize two paths leading from the different sides towards the eternal subject of Love and Death and the magic that unites the two.
