Libertà is a PARAMETRIC OpenType Font Family designed & developed in 7 days
for Officina Degli Esordi - during XYZ2018 Urban Lab in Bari

As we had to design a typeface in a short period of time, the group made of 6 designers has used Phyton as an iterpreter to read and visualize the letterforms from simple .txt files made of ASCII inputs. Instead of designing the letters from scratch we used this method to speed up the process, having the possibility to exchange the assigned graphic sign to the symbols later. In this case we used dots and hash marks to define each layout - then the code replaces the inputs a designs the glyph.
We developed a set made of 3 fonts. They vary depending on the assigned modules by level of complexity, we made the letter's structure more complex by adding 2 or 3 rows and columns to the layout and applying the same principle.
We were able to generate this 3 variants using simple forms, starting from a square & then adding circles, triangles, sections and compositions of them.
We called it Libertà. Libertà is a district of Bari - where the workshop took place, and in italian means 'freedom', as the aim of this typeface was to give to the final user: Officina Degli Esordi, the freedom to type, create layouts and graphics instantaneously and with a variety of 'modules' to choose from.
