Growing up I enjoyed the Transformers cartoons and fast forward to today where I enjoy learning about the Philippines. This project was my way paying homage to my childhood, as well as my adulthood hobby of creating art highlighting Philippine themes.

It required paying attention to my weekend commutes to the city via jeepney, passenger vehicles born out of US military jeeps left behind after World War II, and reviewing Transformers cartoons as well as concept art from the Transformers movies released recently.

The "Pilibots" logo, or "Filibots" as I usually refer to it as, is inspired by the Transformer logos for their two factions of alien robots: the Autobots and Decepticons. The script you see above their english phonetic counterparts for "PI-LI-BO-T-S" is called Baybayin, an ancient Philippine script that is used today by only a handful of groups including ethnic groups holding on to the writing tradition and contemporary artists.

I hope to do more robots when I have time. For now, starting with what's probably the most familiar of Philippine vehicles has been a nostalgic and pleasant project to do.
