CD cover - Fukuyama

This is a CD/EP cover for a band called Fukuyama. We had 4 days from the brief to the presentation of the finished cover. The genre they play falls under nu-disco, although their real ambition is to form their very own genre. They are inspired by Japanese culture, and because of this, our design took inspiration from origami, the traditional Japanese art of paper folding. We chose to have a bird on the cover because a bird is a symbol of happiness in the Japanese culture. This is very fitting, as the name of the band is Fukuyama, which means 'mountains of happiness' in Japanese.

We made the cover in a folding technique, also inspired by origami, so that the CD “pops” up when you open it.  To prevent the CD to fall out when you hold it upside-down we inserted a magnet as a closing mechanism that holds the CD in place.

This is a fictional school project done in collaboration with the NKF.
