Death Valley JourneyPart #3- The Alabama Hills

First light reveals beautiful rock formations.
On the other side of the valley, the Inyo Mountains provide an unusually beautiful backdrop.
Mt. Whitney shrouded in a powerful weather front about sundown.
Typical desert plant life growing around beautiful rock formations.
Spring flowers growing in the sand and gravel.
Beautifully sculpted rock formations surrounded by illuminated plant-life.
Anthropomorphic rock formations were everywhere.
These two rocks certainly see eye-to-eye.
This one reminded me of "The Awakening" statue in Washington DC.
Splashes of color were found everywhere.
The High Sierra's posed as a dominate backdrop. The weather changed often as the mountains fended off strong storm fronts.
Sometimes it seemed like a graveyard for giant exoskeletons.
Beautiful saturated blue skies occurred during mid-day.
I'll remain standing, thank you very much.
I felt like I was rinding into an ambush on the set of a John Wayne movie.
Cracks and crevices serve as prime locations for plant life.
A shortcut along the trail- you go first.
A monumental grouping of huge rocks.
These two rocks looked like 20 ton baking potatoes.
This may very well be the illusive "Scarlet Monkey Flower"...
Rocks in Alabama Hills waiting to be illuminated by the rising sun.
Desert plants basking in early sunshine.
A golden spotlight lasting only a few seconds.
Delicate early morning golden sun light.
Mt. Whitney @ 14,850 feet, gets first of the rising morning sun light.
The desert is beginning to wake up.
Russell the crow followed us everywhere.
Before sunrise with the sun yet to peek over the Inyo Mountains to the East.
Everywhere one looks it's so beautiful and so different than anything else I've seen.
Before sunrise the clouds began to break apart.
Early AM before sunrise- the colors were subtle but saturated...
Eye of Alabama Arch.
Mobius Arch.
Early AM before sunrise invites you to the gap..
Old trees standing strong during a snow squall in the evening shadow of Mt. Whitney. The Inyo Mountains serve as a beautiful background illuminated by the setting sun.
Looking North towards Manzanar Historic WWII interment camp as a weather (snow) front plows over the Sierra's to the West. I was awe-struck by the beauty of this desert scene.
A long exposure with saturated colors- we were in the valley looking due North just before sunset.
Owens Lake with a snow squall.
Looks like a nice place for a rattlesnake to take up residence.
The Milky Way as seen from Alabama Hills.
We almost got lost finding the right spot to photograph the night sky.
We could hear military jets training at a very high altitudes- originating out of Edwards Air Force Base.
Found this Cottonwood tree just basking in the glory that was Alabama Hills.
