// A Dance for a Line
Done for Professor Carl Lostritto
RISD

This project begins with a drawing created with a conte crayon and captured with stop-motion methodology. It starts with a blank canvas, and with each one line drawn, a picture is taken, and this procedure is repeated thousandfold to form a film. The reading of the film informs not only the language of the structure that follows, but its nature, presence, form, and methods of connection and structure.

This film emphasizes the constant compounding of similar lines to texturize and formalize a structure. As the film starts with curvilinear lines, it quickly takes form of rectilinear lines, and this subtle yet radical shift is inferred through the bending and shaping of galvanized steel wire. The third dimension in the film, time, informs the joinery of the structure, the third dimension in space that creates structure. The rapid build-up of line independent of the high frame rate informs the connections synonymous to the bent wire. The final structure formalizes the film in structure, connection, and methodology.
