2 Hrs. on Loop Road- A visit to the Florida Everglades

The Everglades along Loop Road were surprisingly dense, clear but brackish water, and full of wildlife.
Cypress trees were everywhere- this stand represents newer growth as the result of devastation caused by hurricane Andrew.
Bromeliads, or "Air Plants"  grow everywhere.
The head of this alligator must be 36 inches long- that's a 48" culvert.
Even shrubs grow large and dense.
This pond must have had a dozen alligators waiting for us to go swimming...
The late afternoon light was beautiful.
An alligator just hanging out waiting for something yummie to pass by.
An Egret poised and ready to catch a fish.
Though it looks like a swamp, it's actually a huge river that slowly flows across a vast area.
If you look closely one can see the current.
Cypress trees reflecting late afternoon light.
A White Egret readies for takeoff.
A view of the vastness of the Everglades.
