The project is a narrative journey in the Italo Calvino trilogy
Our Ancestors, through analysis of the stories, dialogues with the
characters and a view on the contemporary with the author’s eyes.
Between the books are disposed the main segments of the autor’s life,
from his birth to the year of publication of the trilogy.

Every “book” context is narrated with an ambiental audio plus an immersive projected scenario. Photograps with white holes instead of people gradually compose
various temati c landscapes. Every scenario has phrases from the books showing the link between the opera and the reality.Conceptual houses of the characters, divided by categories. They are disposed in the exhibition in this order, revealing the inner evoluti on of the characters.

The non-projected walls become the metaphors of the literary forest, rapresenting sheets of paper flying vertically forming imaginary trees. All these graphic paperwalls are illuminated with a backlight, making them bright in the darkness of the three rooms.
Inside of the Houses there are interactive videos rapresenting the main characters, seen as contemporary people. Each one recounts extracts of the book, narrated in the first person.

The Author’s life is a journey through four segments of his life, from his birth to the
publication of the trilogy. This journey follows the guidelines of the narration of the three books: the division between the space inside the House ,narrating the human, and the
outside, showing the ambient. Here the visitors, walking exclusively into the House area, can learn about the biography of Italo Calvino looking at the “Archivio” on the wall,
reporting dates, descripti on and the contents. The Outside parts of the four rooms show four different scenarios, related to the segment of life of the Author, to demostrate the link between the inner personality and the exterior elements and habitats.
