Though a very existential and nihilist album To Be Kind manages to present life as something beautiful. The core message focuses on the human nature, taking on specific characters, nature phenomena or tales of specific episodes in order to present the human experience through multiple angles and situations.

Themes as motherhood, childhood, love, despair, death and routine are juxtaposed with themes of religion or the universe. This is perfectly visible in the last song of the album that shares the name with the album where Michael Gira sings "There are millions and millions of stars in your eyes" clarifying the connection that humanity has with the universe, being the children (the kind ones) the most sensible and connected beings.
