This is my work of Aurel Aebi’ s workshop, who is a product designer from Switzerland. Mr. Aebi was invitedto my school in 2010.It was a workshop of findingsome new ways to make particular pencilsI learned a lot from Mr. AebiIt is really a interesting experience for me.
In China, there are many ways of weave.People can turn the soft rope into hardstuff, even as hard as a wood stick throughsome special way of weave. So, I decided to design a series of pencils which is made by rope, not by wood.I tried different ways of weave, because not all of them could make the rope strong enough to keep the pencil leads. Some of the pencils are made ofhemp rope, it is natural, and some are made of red rope,it is traditional chinese feeling.
This kind of weave comes from Chinese Knot, which is a kind of traditional object in China, I am so sure that you know this pencil comes from Chinawhen you first see it.
