dataMOSH: An Artistic Intersection of Glitch and Punk Subculture

'dataMosh' is a fictitious art exhibition which demonstrates the juxtaposition of the Punk Rock and Glitch Art subcultures. The purpose of the exhibition is to show its viewers the unsuspecting similarities between these two analog and digital worlds, and the beauty that can be found within destruction, chaos, accidents and spontaneous moments of time that would otherwise go unnoticed by the outsider eye.

The exhibition itself showcases the works of several recognized glitch artists such as Mattieu St-Pierre, in combination with the photographic works of Punk Rock shows from the 80's by Edward Colver. The art catalogue designed for this exhibition also has additional content to further the concept of joining these two opposing subcultures.

dataMOSH: Art Catalogue
The design of the catalogue itself demonstrates the idea of chaos creating order and beauty. The artist sections are located at the beginning and end of the book (rather than the center/main content), and each section has additional sub categories in which the artwork is organized:

Beauty in the Breakdown: Capturing Moments in the Wild  - The artwork in this section deal with the capturing of spontaneous moments within the culture itself. In punk this is candid photography from punk rock shows, and in glitch it is the capturing of 'wild glitches' that happen at random out on the streets.

Artistic Outlets: The "Art" of Glitch and Punk Subculture - The artwork in this section include the recognized 'art' of each subculture. In punk that is the music (represented in the form of lyrics), and in glitch that is printed artwork by established glitch artists.

Creative Contribution: The Artistic Collectives of Glitch and Punk - Lastly, the artwork in this section represent the creative collectives that are created within the glitch and punk subcultures. In glitch that is represented by the works drawn from the website glitchartistscollective.com, and in punk that is represented by the thousands of flier artwork created for the different punk shows.

In between these artist sections is the secondary content of the catalogue itself which also demonstrates a juxtaposition of the two cultures. Included in that content are both the 'manifestos' of punk and glitch subculture, interviews by an artist from the glitch art movement and a famous punk photographer, as well as essays on the importance and relevance of destructive and beautiful subcultures.
