Typography, Promotional Design
This calendar is a student promotional piece for the type foundry FontFont featuring FF Scala. The calendar features typographic illustrations for the short story “The Yellow Wallpaper” by Charlotte Perkins Gilman. The story follows a woman’s progression from depression to insanity.

Set in the late 1800s at a country estate, the main character, Jane, narrates her vacation at the old mansion. Her husband, a physician, has taken her there for a few months to give her fresh air and to bring her out of her depressed state. Jane knows she needs social interaction and stimulus instead, but her husband doesn’t listen. Her bedroom is covered in peeling yellow wallpaper with a contorted plant-like pattern and mottled coloring. She tries to move to a different bedroom, but her husband won’t let her, saying she’s letting it get the best of her. Jane agrees to fight it, but eventually starts seeing things creeping in circles behind the wallpaper at night. By the end of the narrative, Jane believes she has come out from behind the wallpaper and tears it down so she can’t be put back behind it.
