Chopsticks and Pizza

In my print production class I had to design a postcard that best described who I am as a person. I was adopted by my parents at seventeen months old from China. My father is German and my mother is Italian and if anyone is familiar with Italian culture, it is a very matriarchal family. Mothers have the final say in everything, the Italians are the epitome of the phrase: if mama is not happy, no one is happy. Growing up, my family practiced traditional, Italian family values; basically, my mother ran the household and having small portions with no seconds at dinner time is a disgrace against her and God (her words exactly, trust me). My maternal grandmother always said I was meant to be Italian, I'm just stuck in a Chinese body which was the mantra that really inspired this piece. The design of the postcard is a duotone color scheme (PMS 179 C and PMS 155 C)  complete with a pattern that I drew myself of pizza and chopsticks which are very iconic objects of the Italian and Chinese culture. The front of the postcard is me dressed up as an Italian man that everyone stereotypes with the "wife beater" tank top, obnoxious mustache, and beige pants, while wearing a Chinese rice hat. The back of the card adheres to the postcard requirements of having all colors be at 6% tint. The quote that I used was a shorthand version of how my grandmother always described me: Chinese born and Italian raised.
