Social Outcry Booklet

This was a project that started out as an essay. Every year, York College of Pennsylvania hosts Drive By Press, a mobile printmaking company located in New York that uses traditional wood and linoleum blocks to create their t-shirt designs. In the fall of 2014, Drive By Press gave a presentation about their background and their work and since I was required to attend by my professor, I had to take notes and then write a 2-3 page response about the lecture. Once I got back my essay, there was a phrase that was highlighted that my professor really liked. Ironic enough, that phrase set the basis for my first publication design project. The phrase that was highlighted was “social outcry” and the project was to write anything (another essay, a poem, a short story, etc.) that would relate to that phrase. I always loved writing and I was planning on declaring my creative writing minor in the spring, so the obvious choice was to write an editorial essay about my opinions on what “social outcry” meant to me. After writing the essay, I had to format it in a twelve page booklet, but in any size I wanted. I went with a landscape orientation because I felt as something as rebellious as “social outcry” the booklet should reflect that in a nontraditional format.
