The Pata Rat garbage dump is located 9 kilometers away from Cluj Napoca's bustling city center in Romania.  Several Roma (gypsy) settlements are located around the garbage dump.  The oldest one of them is called Dallas and was founded 40 years ago.  Other settlements sprang up around the garbage dump where many of the inhabitants make a living through recycling whater valuable objects they can find in the garbage dump.  The newest settlement was built on top of a hill overlooking the garbage dump.  It houses nearly 300 people who were resettled there after being evicted from municipal housing in Cluj-Napoca's central Costei street.
