A Summary of Early and Recent Paintings and Drawings

Early and Recent Paintings and Drawings
by Dominic Gomez
I've been drawing and painting pictures, mostly of people and animals since childhood. After becoming discouraged in my original attempts to enter medical school, I realized I still held an appreciation of the human body that was less clinical and more aesthetic. I also learned that there were people who made a living drawing and painting pictures, something I disregarded in my quest to become a doctor.
I applied and was accepted to the Academy of Art University in San Francisco, one of the more prestigious art and design schools in Northern California. I received a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree, with an emphasis in illustration. I learned from some of the best artist-teachers at the time, and I instinctively understood much about how to draw and paint the human body convincingly. The following is series portraying the direction I'll be taking with my skills as a visual artist.
An acrylic painting on canvas. Trying to capture that sense of oneness we sometimes have with our natural surroundings.
A gentleman across fro me inside a Tully's Coffee Shop in Ballard (Seattle). Graphite and color pencil on paper. He didn't know what I was doing until I got up and showed him this drawing. He was quite pleased to be an unknowing subject!

A 7 minute drawing using charcoal and dry pastels.
