I had previously read that The New Yorker was doing a cover that was to be applicable regardless of who won the election. Neither candidate was a desirable result by any stretch of the imagination. Both candidates had an extremely low personal appeal and both inspired a certain amount of disgust (although a standard in politics) but seemed much more pronounced this time.
For the actual cover, the excellent Barry Blitt came up with the non-specific image shown above far left.
Then I saw this tweeted image (left) from one of my respected colleagues done by an unknown Irish artist, which was generally the same idea I had. I decided then to finish my version and post quickly or risk regurgitating an old idea. In addition, the actual New Yorker cover was to hit newsstands Monday morning.
My finished rendition (far right). And just for the fun of it, I used the same type font for the New Yorker masthead to create "The New Groper" masthead.
