Cannonball Charity Ride 2012- Hope Island to Perth

Cannonball Charity Ride 2012
The 18th of March 2012 marked the starting point for the much anticipated annual charity ride.  The Cannonball Charity Ride is a two week off-road adventure motorbike ride consisting of a bunch of men getting together to ride across the country to support a non-government funded organisation DEBRA Australia.

Your can read more at DEBRA Australia's website on the children and families that suffer from the traumatic skin condition at can often lead to other fatal organ failures and cancers.  http://www.debra.org.au/
Briefing day checking over the safety aspects of the bikes.
Gary bought a new bike but didn't even make it to the start line, well he did but on the back of the trailer.  He then rejoined the group in Nindigully after picking up his trusty old blue DR in which he rode in last years ride.
A quick meeting to let everyone know what's going on over the next couple of days.
Problems with the tray hatch lock in Inglewood, plenty of time whilst waiting for the riders to try and fix it.
Finally making it to our first overnight stop at the Nindigully pub BUT no bikes as of yet.  We didn't see the bikes all day until after dark, they had a very long and wet day going through all the creek crossings.
The HUGE beef burger we had for dinner, there was also huge chicken and pork burgers made also.
The DEBRA Australia Ladies Sue and Simone waiting for the riders alongside the road.
First night camping, because of the recent floods out this way Noccundra was absolutely filled with mosquitoes and bugs.  Wasn't nice being bitten through your tent whilst sleeping.
Sunrise on day two out in the bare country with the DEBRA vehicle.
Crossed a little snag and had to turn around and find a different way around the water.
The truck ended up getting bogged and not showing up to the destination for the night, in fact for the next two nights also.  The riders and support crew slept on the concrete using their bike seat covers as pillows, was a very interesting night had by all.
JP decided to get some shut eye at Lyndhurst at our lunch stop finding a nice quiet corner.
A fabulous spread was put on by all at Yudnapinna Station.  Seafood spread and BBQ was just what everyone needed.
Early morning flight over Lake Gairdner on the way to the morning tea stop.
Aerial shots of the bikes whilst they were on the way to morning tea provided by the station owners.
Morning tea in a wool shed made for a great Aussie Outback atmosphere.
Things you find in the outback, submarine in the desert is quite uncommon.
The men relaxing at Ceduna over a cold beer, the truck still hadn't arrived yet after being bogged for over 24 hours.
Later that night at about 10 the truck and the team arrived supplying all of the crew with their fresh clothes, toiletries, beer and sleeping gear.
Down at the Ceduna wharf after the rain.
Group photos at The Great Australian Bight.
On our way crossing the Nullabor, having a bit of fun "Beatles style" as we go.
Whilst sorting camp at Balladonia Gary accidentally dropped his bike.
Keith and Ken had a bit of an accident involving the ute and a massive rutt in the road.
JP sent this photo to his work as they helped raise a lot of money for DEBRA Australia.
Our one-armed chef Oliver.
Having fun clearing the tracks and building bridges to assist the riders on the way through the track.
Whilst waiting for the riders to cross the lake I tried to photograph this little fella but it proved incredibly difficult as I believe it could outrun a race horse, such a fast bug.  Can you imagine what it must of looked like with me chasing a bug in the mud with my camera.
Finally they arrived, some decided not to use the bridge we put together for them resulting in a bike buried in mud for Paul.
Going.....
Gone!
Admiring the view on top of Victoria Rocks, such a beautiful sunset.
Getting a little creative.
And then a gorgeous sunrise to follow the next day with Sue and John from DEBRA admiring the magical view.
Having some fun at Wave Rock.
John counter balancing Brad's bike whilst they fix the flat tyre.
Switching bikes around on the back of trailers proved the crew had great team skills with many hands on deck.
Team bonding whilst filling up vehicles with fuel.
Waiting for the train to pass whilst almost at our lay day stop in Albany WA, such a beautiful place to visit.
Finally some rest and relaxation looking at the view over the bay at Albany.
The Zebra playing a prank on Wade as his BMW went toes up the previous day and had to borrow an injured riders bike to complete the ride.
The crew at Whale World in Albany on their Layday.
Day 13 and the final day proved slow and steady with the marble-like track causing the riders to be very cautious.
A bit of the shenanigans happening at the Valley of Giants.
Bones and muscles were aching from being on the bikes for 9 sometimes 10 hours a day.
Just before riding into the finish line at Waroona we stopped at a place called "Gnomesville" in which a plaque was left on behalf of the riders and DEBRA Australia.  7 identical Gnomes were left to represent the 7 lives that have been lost in Australia due to this skin condition in the 2 years that the Cannonball Charity Ride has been involved with DEBRA.
Riding into the finish line at Drakesbrook Tavern in Waroona.
Chris finishing off his tyre.
Craig and Phil had been bouncing back shenanigans the whole trip amongst each other and finally there were brought face-to-face at Waroona, all in great fun.  Mind you they pinned the main culprit down later that night and shaved the side of his head.
Dave and Jenny from Drakebrook provided entertainment and organised a car show and jumping castle for the kids.
The group at the end of the ride.
