Indigo: Fast Food Stationery Line

Project Brief: To create a line of stationery items including journals, notebooks, pens, pencil cases, pins, magnets, stickers and sticky notes to be sold nation-wide at Indigo and Barnes and Noble. The design had to be fun, colourful, and super trendy. The line was centred around different puns based on fast food.

My Role: Copy writer, Lead designer, Illustrator, Hand-Letterer

Audience: Students, young professionals

Concept: The concept for all of the designs was based on popular fast foods. Different puns were written in collaboration between myself and Andrews and Blaine/Indigo. The puns needed to be in line with different slang and common sayings that are trendy and popular with a younger audience.

Process: The process began with writing the puns. We did a lot of brainstorming about different popular fast foods, and trendy sayings. We came up with 6 different fast food related puns to work with. From this point I began creating all of the illustrations and typography. Everything was created by hand using Sharpie’s and was then turned into vector artwork using Adobe Shape. Using illustrator I was able to clean up all of the vector artwork and colour all of the elements. All of the designs were approved and handed off to the product designer at Andrews and Blaine who put the actual product dielines together.

Result: The line of stationery was sold in Indigo for over two quarters, and was very successful. The line of stationery was also featured on Indigo’s Instagram and in an article in Todays Parent Magazine.
